Homemade Hemp Tofu & Yogurt!

2024-06-23

I decided to unleash my creativity in the kitchen (as usual) and craft a soy-free alternative to tofu! Why? Many people avoid soy for various reasons—whether it’s due to paleo diets, allergies, hormonal concerns, or simply because a lot of soy products are genetically modified.

As you might know, I'm a fan of hemp, and its health benefits are remarkable across the board:

  • Reduces anxiety
  • Supports skin health (great for eczema and encourages new skin cell growth!)
  • Packed with complete protein
  • Easy to digest

Plus, it’s:

  • Nut-free
  • Paleo-friendly
  • Keto-friendly
  • Vegan-friendly

Hemp Yogurt

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups Evo Hemp Seeds
  • ½ to 1 cup room temperature water
  • 2-3 probiotic capsules

Optional Add-Ins:

  • 1 tablespoon raw honey or maple syrup (for a vegan option)
  • Fresh berries (like blueberries, raspberries, or strawberries) for a fruity twist

Directions:

  1. Blend the hemp seeds with ½ cup of water until smooth and creamy. If you’re adding sweetener or berries, include them now and blend again. Depending on your texture preference, you might want to add an additional ¼ to ½ cup of water and blend until you reach your desired consistency.

  2. Once you achieve the preferred texture, open the probiotic capsules and stir them in well using a wooden spoon (avoid metal). Chill in the refrigerator for better flavor, but you can enjoy it right away if you like!

Hemp Tofu

This tofu is made with gelatin, which not only enhances its texture but also adds gut-healing benefits and extra protein.

Ingredients:

Optional Seasonings:

  • Pink salt to taste
  • Garlic powder
  • Italian herbs
  • Squeeze of lemon juice

Directions:

  1. Blend the hemp seeds with water until creamy and smooth. Taste and adjust the seasonings if you’re using any.

  2. Add the gelatin and blend once more. Pour the mixture into a dish lined with wax or parchment paper and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until it’s firm to the touch. It can be stored in the fridge for 4-5 days, and it’s also freezable!

Nutritional Highlights: While I don’t usually track calories, I was curious about the protein content in this recipe. Here are some key figures for the entire recipe:

  • Protein: 137g
